MISSING PIECE (15)

The children got up in fear and rushed to their mother. Jacinta could not believe her eyes. Her husband was standing before her. Was he really back? 

“No hugs for me?”, he asked, wiping the tears from his eyes with the back of his palm. Nobody moved. He felt more guilty. 

“When did you come in?”, Jacinta asked when she finally found her voice.

“I came in during your discussion and I heard all you said”, he replied.

“Claire, take your siblings inside.”

“No, let them stay. Everyone take a seat, we need to talk”, Armstrong began. They sat close to their mother, still frightened. “I’m sorry for my past behaviors. I was angry about all I went through, that I couldn’t provide for you all. I was angry at God, but now, I know better. Andrew, I’m sorry for hitting you. Tony, I’m sorry. Claire, I’m so so sorry. I am changed now but I need another chance.”

Turning to Laura, “Sweetie, I don’t hate and I never will. I love you so much and you are still my little girl.”

Laura’s eyes brightened immediately. “Really?”

“Yes. Come here.” She ran to him, hugging him tightly. 

“I missed you so much, daddy. Don’t ever do that again, okay?”

“Yes ma’am. I promise”, he replied, laughing. “Am I forgiven?”, he asked the others. 

“Yes!”, they chorused and joined in the embrace.

Jacinta bowed her head where she sat, tears flowing freely. Her joy knew no bounds. He is back! Thank You Lord for bring my man back home. Thank You for answering my prayers.

She didn’t see Armstrong kneeling in front of her. “JayCee, I am so sorry for hurting you. I have missed you so so much. Please find a place in your heart to forgive me. Let’s start afresh.” She was speechless.

“Mum, say something”, Andrew nudged. He thought she was taking too long to decide. 

“I….I forgive you”, she said admist tears. They hugged and kissed. 

“Ohh please get a room”, Claire said, feigning disgust, “Don’t spoil us.” They laughed.

“Everyone should get ready before 7pm. We are going out for a family dinner”, Armstrong announced. 

“Hurray”, the children shouted happily. Daddy was indeed back!
