MISSING PIECE (21)
“Mummy, where is daddy?”, Laura asked over meal. They’d agreed that Claire would be the spokesperson as the eldest but so far, nothing was said and she was getting impatient.

Jacinta looked up from her food, sorrow in her eyes. “Ermmm…..he’s….Daddy is……I don’t know”, she exhaled sharply.

“Have you tried calling him?”, Claire asked.

“I have. I’ve gone to the police station to report, but nothing yet so far.”

How could daddy leave just like that? Did they fight again?, was all the children thought about but no one voiced it out.

“I need your help. I need you all to pray for daddy. Can you do that?” They nodded. “Good. Thank you. Now, finish your food.” She felt a bit relieved discussing it with her children. Armstrong, where are you?

“Sir”, the Inspector greeted as he entered the office.

The DPO looked up. “Inspector Hassan, you are back so soon. Are your boys done with patrol?”

“No sir. I had to bring this to you”, Inspector Hassan said, handing him a big envelope.

“And who gave you this?”

“It’s quite strange, sir. A little girl brought it, said a man told her to give us. We told her to take us to the man. We got to a place and she said that was where she met the man. She showed us a #200 note the man gave her if she did it.”

“And you didn’t see the man, no trace, no description?”, the DPO asked, still eyeing the envelope.

“Nothing, sir. She said the man was dark and tall, that’s all.”

“Did you check its contents?”

“Seeing it was addressed personally to you, I didn’t, sir.”

Could it be a bomb? Why would anyone send a girl to deliver a package like this? He opened it slowly, praying silently in his heart.

Inside it were pictures, letters, addresses and telephone conversations. He saw another piece of folded paper. He opened it and read:

Dear Sir,
I’d like to believe that by now, you’ve gotten this envelope. This information is for you alone. I’m sharing it with you because I trust your judgement. Do not share it with all, some of your boys have been compromised. This is what I could gather about that case.  Use it wisely.
Thanks.

No name. “You can go, Inspector.” He looked at the letter again. Could this be a joke? Could it be real?

“Unbelievable”, he exclaimed aloud as he read a telephone conversation. He looked at the pictures. He knew most of them very well. Wait, what if this was a trap?

“Baby, I’m sorry. I was angry then”, Tessy apologised.

“It’s okay. I understand”, Friday said.

“But you’re still angry with me.”

“I’m not. What do you plan to do with him before travelling out?”, he asked, changing the topic.

“Ohh. Lot of things”, her eyes lit as she began talking enthusiastically about them. “Are the papers ready yet?”, she asked when she was done.

“Almost. There are some things we still have to put in place. No traces, remember?” She nodded. “What about Kanga?”

“We’re done with him, erase him”, Tessy said without a hint of emotion.

“With pleasure”, he said with relish.
