DOGOPHOBIA (4)

It’s Monday! I woke up this morning. No bark from “Doggie.”

Yes, that’s its new name. Why would you give a dog the name of a person. Really?

In Warri, one of those dogs’ name was ‘Oscar’. Like why? Such a fine name for a dog? No way! Why not something like the name of planets?
For example, if it’s a female dog, you call it ‘Neptune’, ‘Mercury’, or ‘Venus.’ If it’s a male dog, you call it ‘Mars’, ‘Uranus’ etc.

Okay, I’m laughing. It’s funny ooo, but I think it’s much better.

Imagine your name is Angela and you hear someone call your name. You turn and the person is like, “Sorry, I wasn’t referring to you. I was calling my dog. Ohh! You’re Angela, too?” And even goes ahead to introduce you to the dog, “Angela, meet my dog, Angela.”

My ribs ooo. I swear, if this happens to me, that dog will die there and then!

I have not heard a dog with a native name though. Is it that no one has thought about it? Like naming your dog ‘Akpos’, ‘Ekaette’, ‘Simi’ etc. You are squeezing your face in disgust abi? Yes, that’s how annoying it sounds calling your dog with a human name. To me, anyway.

4:08 p.m.

No barking from Doggie ooo. Has God finally heard my prayer and touched the heart of my neighbours to return the dog from wherever it came from? Let me go and check!

4:12 p.m.

Nope! Doggie is still there. It was even lapping water when I got there. It raised its head when it saw me and we kept staring at each other.

Me looking like, “Why are you still here? Can’t you run away and not come back? Oh wait, you’re chained. Should I undo your chain?”

But I could not read its expression sha.
I’m back in the house and I’m very hungry. It’s like those four minutes I stared at the dog finished my energy, I don’t know. Let me get something to eat. Later!

8.15 p.m.

I returned home not so long ago and heard Doggie barking like mad. I really don’t know why and I am not interested. I’ll see it tomorrow. Let me relax my body, Biko. Goodnight.

P.S: I would be publishing my first book come September, guys. I am so excited about it. Very excited. I’ll let you know more about it as it goes on.

(To be continued)
