#MyParentsSaid3

Growing up as a child, you could not leave me in one place and expect to find me there. I guess it’s the same for most children, right?

Well, being the very playful and very curious child that I was, my mum had left me in just a few to go outside to get a bucket (We were living in this big compound where most of the things you do, except sleeping and eating, is outside your room. Not exactly a face-me-I-face-you type but something around that nature. A typical Nigerian would understand.)

I can’t remember where my dad was again in this story. Maybe he was not around or also stepped out briefly like my mum.

Anyway, I was playing alone inside the house, playing. Just some inches in front of me (like my mum described), was a bucket of water with a boiling ring inside (see picture below). I must have been looking at it and very interested in it because I got up from where I was and the next thing my mum heard was a piercing scream from me.

Running inside the house. She saw me standing in pains (Yes, by this time, I could walk), holding my buttocks and crying.

Only God knows (because me gan, I nor know) but somehow I had sat on the bucket with hot water and ring boiler still in it.

They tried to do the damage control but the deed was done. I had a huge scar on my buttocks and my waist to show for this.

As I grew older though, the buttocks scar faded but that of the waist remained for a long time.

I don’t know if I should say thank God my mum had not used an iron bucket (because that iron ring, a lot of times, causes electrocution) or I should say thank God I didn’t sit on the bucket for too long. Still, I’m grateful I’m still alive. I mean, how would I have been telling you this story?

Well, ring boiler was completely banned in our house after another time, it had melted the side of the rubber container my mum was using.

Help me thank God ooo.

P.S: Below is a picture of a ring boiler. I have never seen it again since my dad banned it from the house. It seemed like my dad told the manufacturers to stop making it or stop them from bringing it my way. 🤣🤣🤣 But I saw it now on Konga.

So, for the younger generation(s), the ring boiler is placed inside a bucket or container made of plastic (really strong plastic ooo, not all these ones they make now that doesn’t last at all) to boil water and even beans (should you want it to cook really faster). It is not advisable to use it with an iron bucket or container. E get why ooo.

So, tell me, did you ever see a ring boiler? Let me know in the comments’ section.
