As we grow older, one thing becomes clear: change is constant.
Our friendships evolve. Our goals shift. Even the things we once held dear may not hold the same weight anymore. And that’s okay. Growth is part of the journey.
But something happened earlier this week that made me pause.
I saw a post about a house that had collapsed somewhere in Lagos. Again. It was truly heartbreaking. Lives affected. Dreams probably lost in the rubble.
As I went on with my day, I couldn’t shake it off. That image lingered.
And then it hit me: What really keeps a house standing?
That thought slowly began to stretch deeper, and I found myself asking:
What is my foundation?
What part of me must remain unshaken, no matter the changes life brings?
That was when the analogy of a house came to me. You can repaint it, renovate it, even tear it down and start over. But as long as the foundation is strong, firm and solid, it can always hold up whatever is built on it.
In the same way, you must know your core. Your non-negotiables. The values, beliefs, and principles that define you even when everything else is evolving.
Because if you don’t protect your foundation, you’ll keep crumbling under pressure and rebuilding with no real sense of direction.
It’s not that you can’t change your mind. You will. It’s not that your perspective won’t shift. It should.
But it should never cost you the very essence of who you are.
Let the world change but let your foundation stand.
What do you hold on to no matter what season you’re in? Drop a comment. I’d love to hear your thoughts.
